Smartbond was formed in January 2000 by Tahir Fayker and John Mueller.

Having worked together in a consulting firm in Cape Town, South Africa in 1996, Tahir and John vowed to start a company together in the future.

After several years of working in the United States and England, the two decided to start SmartBond in January 2000 as a software project management company based in Cape Town, South Africa. SmartBond partnered with a USA software programming house, which had a large number of programmers and few project managers. SmartBond was to manage their projects by using South African project managers. Initially, this looked like a good fit for SmartBond. However, after several months, the two companies decided to go their separate ways.

After considering various options, John and Tahir decided to expand the company's offerings to be a full-fledged software development company which utilizes programmers all over the world.

In September 2000, the company opened a USA-based company (SmartBond, Inc) to perform work for USA clients.

The company now has employees and contractors in several countries, namely the United States, South Africa, Russia and the Ukraine.

In April 2002, Mueller and Fayker split SmartBond into two distinctly separately entities with Mueller owning the SmartBond Inc (USA) entity and Fayker owning SmartBond (Pty) Ltd (South Africa).

Even with the split, SmartBond Inc's goal continues to be to help employ smart people which would not otherwise have had the opportunity. While at the same time, we provide clients with a cost effective solution to their software development needs.
